DART Command Central (DARTCC) is committed to sharing The Emergency Animal Shelter App (EASAppTM) with volunteer teams at no cost as they are already volunteering to help these displaced animals. To learn more about DARTCC, EASAppTM and how you can help this project grow, please visit:
During the summer floods of 2023, the Central Vermont Disaster Response Team (CVDART) used the Emergency Animal Shelter App (EASAppTM) beta version. The shelter was in Barre, Vermont and they cared for 72 pets for 26 days, tracking over 1700 volunteer hours. The details documented in EASApp helped save the life of a cat who required emergency surgery to remove a blockage that the volunteers discovered based on the data collected. This was the first paperless shelter in the US to our knowledge.
EASAppTM has been used by CVDART multiple times since 2023 due to the number of floods that have happened in Vermont. In fact, exactly one year to the day, July 10, 2024 Vermont was flooded again. Remenants of 2 hurricans, a flash flood and 2 tornado watches happened between July 10 and August 10 in central Vermont devistating communities again.
Disasters are happening far too often. In fact, the Weather Channel's Worst Weather Cities of Summer 2024 named St. Johnsbury, Vermont number 2. Vermont was supposedly safe from the worst climate risks. Then came relentless floods as described by VPR.
We are working closely with DARTCC to raise funds, awareness, and continue the development of EASAppTM to help volunteer teams care for pets during disasters.
